Welcome from the Director

Welcome to the Center for Rural Health and Research (CRHR) at Georgia Southern University, and thank you for visiting our website. Initially established as the Office of Rural Health, the CRHR has experienced considerable transition in more than a quarter-century of service to the state of Georgia and the southeast United States. To more effectively reach rural and underserved communities, the Center now resides in the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health.

The CHRH at Georgia Southern University is committed to engage in efforts to improve the health status of rural and underserved communities through effective application of health promotion and primary prevention. Consistent with the College’s mission, the Center seeks to be recognized as a leader in the area of public health practice by serving as a valuable resource to rural and underserved populations in the Southeast. The philosophy of the Center is active community engagement. In retrospect, we are pleased to have been able to provide our clients with high-level technical assistance, education, public health research, and program evaluation, but fully understand that there are many challenges that lie ahead. That having been said, I invite you to join us in our journey to promote health and improve the quality of life of those who live in rural and underserved communities in both the state of Georgia and the surrounding region.
