Georgia Southern Researchers to Design a Study Protocol

Hendricks HallDr. Robert Vogel, Department Chair, along with faculty from the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health at Georgia Southern University have received a grant from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to design a study protocol to research and evaluate the impact of Georgia’s Driver’s Education curriculum in promoting safe driving and reducing traffic related incidents including, but not limited to, injury and fatality. The conceptual approach to this protocol will be to enroll subjects with newly acquired driver’s licenses and monitoring their driving record for a 10-year period. Study groups will be defined to compare those drivers who have completed the state’s recommended driver’s education curriculum to those who only comply with minimum legislative mandates for acquiring a license.
