Karl E. Peace, Ph.D. to Help Develop a New Journal in Biostatistics
Karl E. Peace, Ph.D., FASA, Georgia Cancer Coalition Distinguished Cancer Scholar & Professor of Biostatistics in the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health, has been named a member of the committee to develop a new journal in biostatistics. Other members of the committee are: Xihong Lin, Biostatistics Dept, Harvard SPH; Bin Yu, Statistics Dept, UC Berkeley; Hongyu Zhao, Biostatistics Dept, Yale U; Danyu Lin, Biostat Dept, Univ of North Carolina; Shein-Chung Chow, Dept of Biostat and Bioinformatics, Duke U; Xuming He, Statistics Dept, Univ of Illinois; Naitee Ting and Christy Chuang-Stein, Pfizer; and Ivan Chang, Merck & Co. The journal will be sponsored by the International Chinese Statistical Association.     4/17/2006
Dr. Peace named SWGCC Senior Scientific Advisor
Karl E. Peace, Ph.D., Georgia Cancer Coalition Distinguished Cancer Scholar & Professor of Biostatistics in the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health (JPHCOPH), has been named "SWGCC Senior Scientific Advisor" to the Southwest Georgia Cancer Coalition (SWGCC). In this capacity, Peace will provide advice on all scientific aspects of SWGCC operations. The appointment was unanimously approved by the SWGCC Board of Directors in recognition of Peace's contributions to the success of the SWGCC over the last 3 years. The SWGCC is one of the Regional Programs of Excellence (RPE) under the Georgia Cancer Coalition (GCC) Umbrella. Currently the JPHCOPH and the SWGCC are conducting 3 community health related projects in the 33 county SW Georgia area, and are in the process of developing two more.     3/27/2006
Renowned Scholar and Pharmaceutical Researcher Endows Chair in Biostatistics at UC Berkeley
BERKELEY—The School of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley, announced the establishment of the Jiann-Ping Hsu and Karl E. Peace Endowed Chair in Biostatistics, which was approved by University of California President Robert C. Dynes in February 2006. Full Story     3/20/2006
Peace Featured Speaker at Baker County Health Fair for Farmers
Dr. Karl E. Peace, GCC Distinguished Cancer Scholar and Professor of Biostatistics in the JPHCOPH, was the featured speaker at the Baker County, Georgia Health Fair for Farmers, held Monday, February 6, 2006, in Newton, Georgia. The event was co-sponsored by the Farm Bureau, the Southwest Georgia Cancer Coalition (SWGCC), Albany Area Primary Health Care, Inc., the Southwest Georgia Community Health Department, and the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health (JPHCOPH). The JPHCOPH in collaboration with the SWGCC currently have ongoing three research studies related to cancer screening and behavioral interventions to improve health in Baker County. Dr. Peace is a native of Baker County, and recently endowed two scholarships at Georgia Southern for students from Baker County.     2/13/2006
Georgia Southern biostatistics program producing graduates to work in drug development and testing
Developing and testing a new drug requires the best efforts of a team of experts, and one of those much-needed experts is a biostatistician, a mathematical scientist who designs drug testing protocols and manages, analyzes, and interprets the resulting data. Since its inception in 2001, Georgia Southern University’s biostatistics program, working through the Karl E. Peace Center for Biostatistics, has produced eight biostatisticians and has an increasing number of students opting for this growing field of study. Full Story     1/25/2006
