Dr. Arroyo Serves as Research Mentor for McNair Scholar Program Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement programs are designed to encourage low-income students and minority undergraduates to consider careers in college teaching as well as prepare for doctoral study. Students who participate in this program are provided with research opportunities and faculty mentors. The program was named in honor of the astronaut that died in the 1986 space-shuttle explosion. Dean Hardy Appointed Chair of USG ACOPH Dean Charles Hardy has been appointed chair of the University System of Georgia - USG - Administrative Committee on Public Health - ACOPH. The ACOPH is a standing USG committee that serves to advise the USG on the status of public health education, research and service within the system institutions. Member institutions of the ACOPH include Armstrong Atlantic State University, Fort Valley State University, The Medical College of Georgia, Georgia Southern University, Georgia State University, and the University of Georgia. The ACOPH reports through the USG Academic Planning and Programs organization, with Vice Chancellor Stone serving as a key member of the group. 6/6/2007

Dr. Ledlow Publishes New Book on Healthcare Supply Chain Gerald Ledlow, director of the graduate program in health services policy and management in the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health, has co-authored a new book titled "Optimize Your Healthcare Supply Chain Performance: A Strategic Approach." Published this month by Health Administration Press, the volume is co-authored by Allison P. Corry and Mark A. Cwiek. The book is a practical resource for ensuring optimal supply chain operations, and it provides tips for managing relationships with various stakeholders, including manufacturers and distributors. 3/27/2007

Each day of the week will address the unique needs of the nation's most vulnerable populations including mothers and young children, hourly-wage workers, schools serving K-12 grades, food banks, and individuals with chronic health conditions.

This event, hosted by the Georgia Rural Health Association, is held every year during the annual General Assembly session. Students Get Educated on STDs While sexually transmitted diseases are still a problem at Georgia Southern and other universities around the country, health officials are optimistic that people understand the risks. JPHCOPH co-sponsors the Annual Southeastern Regional Student Mentoring Conference in Gerontology and Geriatrics JPHCOPH is honored to have been invited to serve as a co-sponsor for the Eighteenth Annual Southeastern Regional Student Conference in Gerontology and Geriatrics. For almost two decades, this conference has provided the only dedicated venue for students to showcase their research, promote development of presentation skills, and connect with fellow students and faculty members from across the eastern United States, all of whom hare a passion for gerontology and geriatrics. The conference theme this year is "Ethnicity,Diversity, and Health Disparity in Aging and the Aged." Dr. Ledlow and Dean Hardy participate in Cancer Health Disparities Colloquium Dr. Jerry Ledlow and Dean Charlie Hardy participated in a Cancer Health Disparities Colloquium held at Savannah State University on January 24, 2007. The College of Sciences & Technology at Savannah State University (SSU) and Coastal Business & Education Technology Alliance (CBETA) hosted the meeting. Dean Hardy served as the Moderator for the first panel discussion and Dr. Ledow was a panel participate. His presentation, entilted " Cancer Disparities: Actionable Data", focused upon the development of public health survey methodology to facilitate decision making at the local level. Native Son Helps Fight Cancer with Screenings, Research, Education Karl Peace knows first-hand the devastating effect cancer can have on a family. His mother, Elsie Mae Cloud Peace, had a double mastectomy at age 36 for breast cancer, and his father, Cecil, died of colorectal cancer at the age of 59.
