Biography:
Dr. Russell E. Savage Jr. is an Associate Professor of Environmental Health Sciences and the Director for the Office of Public Health Research at the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health at Georgia Southern University. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Savage served as the Associate Director for Science for the Division of Applied Research and Technology at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Centers for Disease Control (CDC). He has also held federal positions with the Department of the Defense (DOD) at the Aberdeen Proving Ground and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) His previous academic appointment was at The Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, Ohio where he was an Assistant Professor (Pharmacology) of Biomedical Sciences.
Dr. Savage received his Ph.D. from the Ohio State University College of Medicine in Pharmacology and was a post doctoral research fellow in the Department of Pharmacology at OSU. During graduate school, Dr. Savage received the Chauncey D. Leake Prize in Pharmacology for consistently outstanding performance as a student. He also holds the Masters in Technical and Scientific Communication (MTSC) and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Chemistry; both from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
Dr. Savage’s research focuses on biomarkers and their applications for environmental/occupational safety and health issues. He is particularly interested in computational approaches for biomarker identification, pathway analysis, validation and ultimately incorporation/implementation into risk assessments or exposure limits.
Dr. Savage is a member of the editorial board for Toxicology Mechanisms and Methods. He enjoys travel, running, the elliptical machine and spending time with his geographically dispersed family and the family Irish Setter, Sadie.
