Biography:

Robert (Robin) Hines is an Assistant Professor of Epidemiology at the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health at Georgia Southern University (GSU). Robin grew up in Brewton, AL, a small town at the southern end of the state. He graduated from public high school and went on to attend Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA where he majored in biology.

After graduating from W&L, Robin moved to Birmingham, AL and worked in a translational research cardiology laboratory at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Robin entered the Master of Public Health program at UAB the following year and discovered the fascinating subject of epidemiology. After obtaining a master’s degree, Robin entered medical school at UAB. After two years, he decided that he was better suited to a career in public health rather than medicine and withdrew from medical school. He accepted a position as an epidemiologist at the Alabama Department of Public Health in the Cancer Prevention Division located in Montgomery, AL.

In 2004, Robin moved back to Birmingham and entered the PhD Program in Epidemiology at UAB. He pursued his interest in cancer research, and his dissertation focused on racial disparity in survival between African Americans and Caucasians following surgery for colon cancer. He published the findings resulting from his dissertation work in two prestigious cancer journals.

Robin enjoys spending time with his family, music, running, and movies.
