Biography:

Dr. Hani Samawi was born in Jordan’s second largest city, Irbid. He received a B.S. in Mathematics and an M.S. in Mathematical Statistics, both at Yarmouk University in Jordan. He then came to the U.S. to attend the University of Iowa, where he received an M.S. in Applied Statistics and a Ph.D. in Biostatistics from the College of Public Health. He gained a vast amount of experience at the University of Iowa and then at Yarmouk University. He worked his way up from Teaching Assistant to Professor of Biostatistics. Dr. Samawi also held administrative positions, such as both Acting Chair and Chairman for the Statistics Department while in Jordan.

Dr. Samawi received the Academic Outstanding Award in 1986 from Yarmouk University. He also received the Henry Award for Outstanding Performance on Ph.D. Qualifying Examination in 1990 from University of Iowa.

Dr. Samawi is a member of the American Statistical Association, the International Biometric Society, the American Public Health Association and the Georgia Public Health Association. Currently, he is the Associate Professor of Biostatistics within the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health at Georgia Southern University. His research interests include Sampling Survey, Ranked Set Sampling Methods, Monte Carlo Methods of Simulation, Bootstrap methods, Parametric and Non-Parametric inference and Data Analysis in Biomedical field. Dr. Samawi has had 60 articles published and accepted for publication in peer reviewed journals.

In his spare time Hani enjoys fishing, reading, and traveling.
