She also received an MS from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she studied Medical Microbiology and Immunology. During her PhD she was involved with research studies concerning young women with HIV from four large U.S. cities. Her work explored the intersections of HIV, poverty, gender, and abuse, using a mixture of qualitative and quantitative approaches.
At JPHCOPH she teaches Master’s and Doctoral-level courses such as Global Health, Community Health Analysis, and Rural Community Health. She is involved in a range of community-based research efforts in southern Georgia dealing with issues such as social determinants of health, telehealth, immigration, and HIV. She specializes in the use of qualitative and ethnographic approaches, and hopes to convey to her students the importance of health advocacy and political participation.
